As a detour I decided to take my family to Nashville Tn on our way to the Smoky Mountains. It was so refreshing to just browse around such a vibrant and creative city. As a city Nashville is known as the “Music City” but as I learned on this trip it was also a manufacturing center for various industries. There was even an automobile manufacturer called Marathon Automobile who had a grand industial complex operating there until 1914.
The old complex is now a revitalized shopping and entertainment center, with candy shops, an ice cream shop, antiques store and various other commercia spaces.
It was great to spend a day and a half driving around such an intersting city and experience its people and relish in its emerging food culture. Everything from artisan pizzas to spicy hot chicken and traditional southern influenced foods can be had along with a great assortment of coffee shops producing high quality beverages. One of the best in the area is a great shop called The Frothy Monkey, its a creative little spot that is frequented by the local music artists and creative types.
We also visited a coffee establishment that recently opened called Steadfast Coffee. This shop has a very modern clean feel with very techy tools and appliances for the Barista craft. A must see. Stop by and tell Grace I sent you.
Well we are on our way out of Nashville and headed to Gatlinburg and the beautiful Smoky Mountains National Park.
